Deck the Halls · the holiday party pack · Heart-to-heart & keepsakes
Dear Next December
Everyone seals a short note to next December. It opens the next time this group plays, and the room guesses who wrote it.

- ~8 min
- 3–10 people
- One device, or phones
- In the Deck the Halls pack
- Ages 10+
Dear Next December is one of the ten games in Deck the Halls, a pack bought once and kept by your group.
What it feels like
The decorations go back in the box, and a year goes by faster than anyone expects. So tonight, write a few lines to next December, and seal them. Here's what you do. Take a private turn each and write a short note to everyone here. The notes are sealed in the Almanac. The next time you meet, they're opened, and before anyone owns up, the room guesses who wrote each one. Every right guess scores two points. So write something true, and maybe a little hard to trace.
How to play
- Take a private turn each and write a short note to this group.
- The notes are sealed in the Almanac.
- They open the next time you meet, and the room guesses who wrote each one.
Scoring: When they open, 2 points for each right guess.
You'll get prompts like
- “Write a note to everyone here, to be opened next time we play”
- “Write what you hope is true by next December, to be opened next time we play”
What you need
3 to 10 people and one phone, tablet or laptop to pass around — or everyone on their own phone in a room. Nothing to download, no accounts. The best lines can be sealed into your group's Almanac and come back in later games.
