What it feels like
Tonight, let's make a little room at the table for someone who isn't here. We'll light a candle for them, and pass it round. You don't have to say much. A story, a smell, a thing they always said. Or just hold the candle for a moment. That's enough. They'll be kept here, in their own words... and yours.
How to play
- Name who you're remembering, and if you like, a day that was theirs.
- The candle goes round. Each person gets a gentle question and tells a story out loud — or simply holds it and passes.
- Anyone can keep a line of what they said. It goes in the Almanac under their name, never into a guessing game.
- Every year on their day, the home screen lights their candle again, with one of tonight's stories.
Scoring: No points. Tonight is only about them.
What you need
3 to 10 people and one phone, tablet or laptop to pass around — or everyone on their own phone in a room. Nothing to download, no accounts. The best lines can be sealed into your group's Almanac and come back in later games.
