Countdown · the new year's eve pack · Heart-to-heart & keepsakes
This Time Next Year
Predict something about yourself. It opens next time you play — next New Year's Eve, say. Did it come true?
- ~8 min
- 3–10 people
- One device, or phones
- In the Countdown pack
- Ages 10+
What it feels like
Twelve months from tonight, you'll be a slightly different person. Tonight, you get to bet on who. Here's how it works. Take a private turn each and write one prediction about yourself. The predictions are sealed in the Almanac, and nobody reads them tonight. They open the next time this circle plays, and the whole room decides what came true. When the capsule opens, every prediction that came true scores three points. So, how well do you really know where you're heading?
How to play
- Take a private turn each and write one prediction about yourself.
- The predictions are sealed in the Almanac. Nobody reads them tonight.
- They open the next time this circle plays, and the room decides what came true.
Scoring: When they open, a prediction that came true scores 3.
You'll get prompts like
- “Predict one thing you'll have done by the next time we play”
- “Predict something that will have changed in your life by next time”
What you need
3 to 10 people and one phone, tablet or laptop to pass around — or everyone on their own phone in a room. Nothing to download, no accounts. The best lines can be sealed into your group's Almanac and come back in later games.
