One person at a time: the best of the year, the hardest part, and the hope for the next one.

What it feels like

Before the clock runs out on this year, it deserves a proper goodbye. We go round the room, once. Here's how it works. One person takes the floor at a time and shares out loud: the best thing that happened this year, the hardest part of it, and the one thing you hope for from the year ahead. You can use the sixty-second timer if you like, and nobody has to write anything. Keep any line worth remembering in the Almanac. Nobody keeps score. It's just the room, listening, so take your time.

How to play

  1. One person takes the floor at a time and answers out loud.
  2. Use the 60-second timer if you like. Nobody has to write anything.
  3. Keep any line worth remembering in the Almanac.

Scoring: No scores. Just the room, listening.

You'll get prompts like

  • “Best — the best thing that happened to you this year”
  • “Hardest — the part of the year that was hard”

What you need

3 to 10 people and one phone, tablet or laptop to pass around — or everyone on their own phone in a room. Nothing to download, no accounts. The best lines can be sealed into your group's Almanac and come back in later games.
