Board Night

A board game for the whole night. Roll, land, and play what you land on: a line from an earlier night, a vote on the room, a duel on the remote.

What it feels like

Once upon a time, a group of friends unrolled a very big board. Here's how it works. Take turns rolling the die and moving round the board, five turns each. Land on a star for two stars. Land on a line from an earlier night and say who said it, for three. Land on a vote and guess who the room will pick, for three. Land on a duel and play fifteen seconds on the remote: the higher score wins three. Most stars at the end wins.

How to play

  1. Take turns: OK rolls the die and you move round the board. Five turns each.
  2. Land on a square and play it: a line from an earlier night (who said it?), a vote on the room, a 15-second duel on the remote, or stars.
  3. Most stars at the end wins.

Scoring: Star square +2, passing Start +2. Name who said a line +3 (and +1 to them). Guess the room's pick +3. Win a duel +3, a draw +1 each.

You'll get prompts like

  • “Who here is most likely to win a staring contest?”
  • “Who here is most likely to own the most mugs?”

What you need

3 to 10 people and one phone, tablet or laptop to pass around — or everyone on their own phone in a room. Nothing to download, no accounts. The best lines can be sealed into your group's Almanac and come back in later games.
