Hear Me Out

Everyone picks something they'd have to defend. The room guesses whose it is, then its owner gets twenty seconds: hear me out…

Play Hear Me Out now

What it feels like

Okay. Everybody here loves something they cannot defend. A snack. A film. An opinion about breakfast. Tonight, you defend it anyway. Here's how it works. In a private turn, you get a category, and you write your pick. Then each pick comes up with no name, and the room guesses whose it is. That's two points if you get it. Then the owner stands up and gets twenty seconds. Hear me out... When time's up, hands up if you're convinced. One point for every hand. Go on. Convince us.

How to play

  1. In a private turn, you get a category — like “a food combination you'll defend” — and write your pick. The harder to defend, the better.
  2. Each pick comes up with no name. Everyone guesses whose it is.
  3. Then its owner gets twenty seconds: “Hear me out…”. Hands up if you're convinced.

Scoring: 2 points for guessing whose pick it is. The owner scores 1 for everyone they convince.

You'll get prompts like

  • “A food combination you'll defend”
  • “A film everyone hates that you love”

What you need

3 to 10 people and one phone, tablet or laptop to pass around — or everyone on their own phone in a room. Nothing to download, no accounts. The best lines can be sealed into your group's Almanac and come back in later games.
