Holidays Past is one of the ten games in Deck the Halls, a pack bought once and kept by your group.
What it feels like
Everyone carries a holiday or two from long ago: the year of the bicycle, the year it snowed, the year the oven broke. Tonight, they come out with no names on them. Here's how it works. In a private turn, you each answer two prompts, and nobody else looks. The answers come up one at a time with no name on them, and you say out loud who you think wrote each one. Then we reveal it. Every right guess scores two. If fewer than half of you guess yours, you score three for staying a mystery.
How to play
- Take a private turn each and answer two prompts. Nobody else looks.
- The answers come up one at a time, with no name on them. Say out loud who wrote it.
- Reveal, and see who read the room.
Scoring: 2 points for each right guess. If fewer than half of you guess yours, you score 3 for staying a mystery.
You'll get prompts like
- “The best present you were ever given as a child”
- “A holiday tradition from the home you grew up in”
What you need
3 to 10 people and one phone, tablet or laptop to pass around — or everyone on their own phone in a room. Nothing to download, no accounts. The best lines can be sealed into your group's Almanac and come back in later games.
