Then and Now
Everyone writes a family then and a family now. The room sees the then, and guesses whose it is.
- ~15 min
- 3–10 people
- One device, or phones
- In the Family Lines pack
- Ages 10+
What it feels like
Families change slowly, and then all at once you're the one saying the things your parents said. Tonight, we look at then, and now. Here's how it works. In private, you each get a question and write down a true before and a true after. Then one before is read out, with no name. Everyone guesses whose it is, and then the after is revealed. A right guess scores two. Stump the whole room, and those two points are yours.
How to play
- In a private turn, everyone gets a question — like “a food you refused to eat as a kid” — and writes a true before and after.
- Each round, one before comes up with no name.
- Everyone else guesses whose it is, on phones or out loud. Then the after is revealed.
Scoring: 2 points for guessing whose it is. If nobody gets yours, you score 2.
You'll get prompts like
- “A family rule when you were a kid”
- “What Sunday looked like when you were ten”
What you need
3 to 10 people and one phone, tablet or laptop to pass around — or everyone on their own phone in a room. Nothing to download, no accounts. The best lines can be sealed into your group's Almanac and come back in later games.
